Saudi Arabia Fashion Clothing- Traditional yet Fashionable

Saudi Arabia is a nation that has long been known as an Islamic state with religion and customs dictating conservative dressing style for both the men and women. It is their attire that makes them different from rest of the nations. Saudis have a preference for conventional clothes rather than the western dressing and are generally seen in contemporary adaptations of the traditional designs. Keeping in sync with the Islamic principle of modesty, the clothes adorned by them are generally loose and flowing conventional attires that are apt for the empire’s hot climate.

To know better about Saudi Arabia’s fashion clothing, it is wise to know in detail about the attires of both Saudi men and women.

Men:
Men generally adorn an ankle length shirt designed out of wool or cotton and named as thawb. As their head gear, they adorn a large cotton square known as ghutra that is doubled crossways over the skullcap referred to as kuffiyah and held at one place with igaal known as the cord circlet. Apart from these, the men also wear a free flowing, full length outer cloak referred to as bisht which is crafted out of wool or camel hair for giving a complete touch to their outfit. Decades back, the bisht was used as a blanket for traveling.

Women:
Women as a matter of fact adorn a black cloak known as abaya above their dress that can be stylish in design and fashion. Saudi women customarily wear a shayla on their heads that is a black scark draped around their head and placed well with circlets or jewelry. Many Saudi women will be seen adorning dresses that would be embellished with coins, sequins and vibrantly colored fabrics.

There are few Saudi women who still adorn veils designed out pure fabric. Women have been adorning veil since ages even prior to the beginning of Islam. In the ruthless desert environment of Saudi Arabia, a thin veil acts as a protection that shields women from the constant exposure of the sun which can harm the skin and eyes along with being a symbol of worth and modesty.

Women in Saudi Arabia are fashionable not just in the sense of having a designer abayah. Underneath the black cloak, women adorn fashionable and stylish garments and value their appearance. The women prefer wearing bright hues and luxurious fabrics. However, Non-Muslim women residing in Saudi Arabia have to adorn abayah as a respect to the local traditions.
