Kingdom of Bahrain
Bahrain laws are based on its constitution, and have been subject to different issues during the history of the state. The laws underwent changes in 2002, when the second constitution in the modern history of Bahrain was implemented. The first constitution was written in 1973 after the country won its independence from the United Kingdom. It was based on a unicameral legislature, which consisted of just 30 members. Those members were elected through universal suffrage. Only one election took place under this constitution because the constitution was abolished in 1975. It was believed that it was a move done by Emir Shaikh to gain more power over the people. From 1975 to 2002, emergency Bahrain laws dominated the country.
