From the 7th millennium, a new energy was increasing in the Center Eastern, that of Islam, while the Byzantine Roman and Sassanid Nearby powers were both damaged by decades of stalemate combat during the Roman-Persian Conflicts. In a sequence of fast Islamic conquests, the Arabic armies, inspired by Islam and led by the Caliphs and experienced army commanders such as Khalid ibn al-Walid, grabbed through most of the Center East; decreasing Byzantine areas by more than 50 percent and absolutely engulfing the Nearby areas. In Anatolia, their development was clogged by the still able Byzantines with the help of the Bulgarians.
